Today, I had the opportunity to meet the writer Vavuniyoor Ira. Uthayanan, who is visiting Canada for a family event. I thank my childhood friend Thirunavukkarasu (from Vavuniya) for making this meeting possible.
Writer Devakanthan and social-political activist Ellalan also joined us for this gathering with Uthayanan.
We all had a lively discussion at “Santhosh Spice Palace,” a restaurant located in the town of Stouffville.
The conversation touched on various topics such as experiences of exile, literary journeys, nostalgic memories of Vavuniya, and writing experiences with the Eezhanadu newspaper. We also exchanged our published books with each other.
Uthayanan from Vavuniya is one of the most renowned writers. His literary contributions span across novels and short stories, showcasing a multifaceted talent. Notably, the Jeevanathi magazine published a special issue on "Vavuniya Ira. Uthayanan " this past April. His novels have also been serialized in the Virakesari and Thinakaran newspapers. He received the Sahitya Mandala Award for his novel Vithi Varaintha Paathaiyile "(On the Path Drawn by Fate") and the K.Chinnappa Bharathi Award for 'Pani Nilavu' ("Snowy Moon").
The evening spent with writer Vavuniyoor Ira. Uthayanan was delightful.
