If you look at history, the struggles of oppressed people often prevail in the end, though at times it may seem otherwise. Sometimes, armed struggles are successfully suppressed, but in those circumstances, these suppressed armed struggles pave the way for achieving a political solution later on. Often, oppressors fail to understand the struggles of the oppressed and label freedom fighters as terrorists, while they themselves may commit state terrorism that entails much higher human rights violations than those committed by the so-called 'terrorists' engaged in armed struggles.
Think about Nelson Mandela. Once he was called a terrorist and jailed. He languished in jail for many decades. In the end, he became the leader of South Africa. Yasser Arafat was considered a terrorist, but later he became the recognized leader of his people by the international community. I am not justifying Hamas here for their actions. What I am saying is they did not arise out of nowhere. They are a product of Israel's past systematic human rights violations against the people of Palestine. That's why many countries are still willing to talk to them in order to establish a truce.
If we look at the current situation in Gaza, after many months of destruction and thousands of civilian casualties, the government of Israel still can't wipe out Hamas. Even if they succeed in eliminating Hamas from Gaza, they won't be able to completely eradicate Hamas. Why? Hamas is considered freedom fighters by the people of Palestine.
The USA knows this from past experiences, which is why it withdrew from Vietnam and Afghanistan. This is also why it supports a two-state solution to the Palestinian problem. The current leader of Israel's push for a one-state solution reverses all the progress made in the past. As a result, the current leader of Israel has become a liability to Western national interests.
Israel's hard line leaders and supporters are unlikely to pursue a one-state solution to the current Israel-Palestine conflict. In the end, regardless of how much destruction Israel inflicts upon the Palestinian people, a two-state solution will emerge, as it is supported by the international community. If the hard line leaders fail to grasp this, they may be replaced by powerful Western actors to pave the way for peace that aligns with their national interests.
That's why many prominent Democratic senators have begun voicing that the current leader of Israel must step down. This is also why pundits discuss the International Criminal Court's potential war crime charges against Israel's current hard line leadership. Additionally, the USA has decided to build a port to distribute aid to the affected people of Palestine.
University students in the USA have begun protesting. Many students from other countries have supported these protests or are considering starting their own in their countries. This is a concerning development in an election year in the USA and is likely to primarily affect the Democrats in the presidential election.
